Airport System for Transport and Operations
Various departments of Fraport Ground Services – Jetway Services, Pushback Operations, Airfreight Transport, Baggage Transport, and Passenger Transport – are currently still using the TESS family of equpiment management systems developed by the company INFORM GmbH. It was first introduced at Passenger Transport in 1991.
Together with Inform GmbH TESS is now going to be gradually replaced by ASTRO (Airport System for
Transport and Operations), beginning with Baggage Transport in 2013. The new system involves more extensive automation of processes, which will change the work done by controllers. In the future, they will mainly perform monitoring and supervision tasks and only actively intervene when it is necessary to make corrections.
But the new system will also introduce changes for other staff. As a result of the upgrade, the roughly 500 drivers of each of the transport departments will receive their assignments via a new entry screen. In Baggage Transport (Astro Luchs), this will additionally reduce travel times and empty trips while optimizing processes and harmonizing the interfaces between the loading and baggage services. Importantly, our customers will also benefit from the new ASTRO system.
